HER STORY
If You're Looking for Authentic Storytelling
"I write for the woman folding laundry who dreams of faraway places. For the traveler-at-heart who sits stuck in traffic. For the reader who wants to feel history — not just study it. If my stories make you pause, remember, or see something old in a new light, then I've written a good book."
Nancy Polk Hall doesn’t just tell history — she uncovers it, revives it, and restores its meaning in a way that makes it impossible to forget. She has always seen history not as a collection of dates and events, but as a vast, intricate tapestry of real people, choices, and consequences.
From the earliest days of her curiosity, she has chased the untold stories, asked the difficult questions, and brought to life the moments that textbooks too often leave behind.
Nancy Polk Hall is known for her expertise in writing historical fiction mystery novels. Her exceptional storytelling skills have earned her works a place among the most beloved historical fiction books enjoyed by readers around the globe.
HER JOURNEY
Always Up for a Challenge
Nancy Polk Hall was immersed in her family’s history as she grew up — a legacy spanning from the Texas frontier and the Deep South to the streets of Berlin. These weren’t just dinner conversation topics; they were the real experiences that taught her how history shapes lives in unexpected, often ironic ways.
CHASING HISTORY
A PASSION FOR PRESERVATION
That passion was evident even in her earliest years. In ninth grade, she challenged her history teacher when she noticed the Reformation being skimmed over. When she asked about the War of the Roses, her teacher had never heard of it and challenged her to teach the class herself.
Nancy didn’t hesitate. She spent the night mapping genealogies and outlining the rivalries of Lancaster and York. The next day, a classmate said: “I learned more from you today than I have all year.”
At twelve, Nancy sat in her grandmother’s kitchen listening to her great-grandmother who was born in 1883, share stories of ranch life in Texas: riding horses in long dresses, learning to shoot rifles. Six months later, she was gone. But her stories lived on.
That moment taught Nancy that history isn’t just written in textbooks. It’s lived, spoken, and passed down. If you don’t listen, it disappears.
LIVING HISTORY
THE WRITER TODAY
Nancy’s love of history only deepened as she traveled through Europe as a child, exploring medieval castles, standing in the places where historical figures had once walked, and absorbing the rich, layered narratives embedded in the landscapes around her.
She didn’t just read about history — she lived it. And she never stopped chasing the untold stories.
Whether through her writing, her research, or her speaking engagements, Nancy Polk Hall has a rare ability to make history feel — to breathe life into the past in a way that makes it impossible to ignore.
When not traveling, Nancy lives with her husband Danny in a historic home in Galveston, Texas.
